summaries:
“Construction of a City” tells the gripping story of the birth of the city “Nueva Federación”, after the destruction of an ancient city for in place the construction of the Salto Grande Dam in the 70s. One day the bulldozers came in the name of progress and technological advances and destroyed everything; nothing remained of the city which was then buried under water. Compensated and resigned everyone moved to the New Federation, a city without trees, no birds, no club or bar to meet, uniform with low houses, all equal and of straight lines. Everything had happened behind closed doors; scattered neighbors, forced to relocate? Neighbors lacking linkage with the new place and missing spaces where to meet the other neighbors. The speakers are local people whose stories of life and uprooting give meaning to this documentary.
“Modular Space”. Valparaiso, world heritage city, is the most important tourist urban center in Chile, due to its unique architecture and its port identity. Today the city is transformed bringing along clear signs of deterioration. A modern residential logic prevails, restricting free access to sunlight, air, and sea view to its inhabitants, its plots are being sold to locals, Chileans and foreigners as high value property. Bautista Cofré and Nicole Ampuero recorded an urban phenomenon that pervades Valparaiso: tall buildings. Nicole Ampuero y Bautista Cofre decided to record the complicated issues of living against to a modern, big and tall building. Modular Space, is a documentary that builds with images a reality that affects hundreds of locals, as authorities granted building permits without discerning.
